Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines
Anglers that made the most of the small windows last weekend did manage some nice offshore Dhu Fish, Snapper and Baldchin.
The full-on winter weather conditions are changing things daily. With large volumes of dirty fresh water flowing down our systems it takes a little more planning to have a successful session.
Fishing from the top of the tide thru till the midpoint of the outgoing tide is a good place to start. This is relevant for all our rock wall groynes and sheltered waterways ocean side of the estuary. There will still be occasional pockets of saltier clear water trapped between the fresh. These areas are always worthy of a cast or two – they can often be full of bait, squid, herring and tailor.
Our juvenile Salmon are also active during the cooler water just keep looking for the clearer water. A few days after rainfall events once the majority of fresh has passed out to sea it can be the rock walls and groins on the ocean sides that can produce well.
Another tip is to consider using a bottom rig rather than topwater rig as the saltier water will be down the bottom of the flow. Hence where more of our saltwater species will be hanging out.
With the closure of the demersal season as of midnight the 31st of July we look forward to seeing your pics with all the other species available in our peel region over the next few weeks.
Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
