Tight Lines – 3rd October
October 03, 2024

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

Another week of great fishing through the Peel region with plenty of people making the most of the school holidays and the Sunshine.

Offshore first up this week the spring BlueFin Tuna run is definitely on with some solid fish amongst them. Looking for Bait on your sounder is the key, on some glassy days you may even see some free jumping in the distance. That’s the cue to get some lures in and start the troll. Once you have raised a school if you throw a few handfuls of mulie cubes you can often hold them up for some light tackle casting action.

We have also seen some good sized KG’s offshore fishing; the edges of the sand weed lines is the key!

Post this bit of swell I’m looking to make the most of the dirty water with Crays and Pink Snapper. They Both love dirty water and will be super active over the next 7 days or so.

Our rivers and estuary fishing is on the build-up as well with some nice Bream and juvenile Mulloway up the rivers. And in our Estuary follow the cleaner water for the start of our summer Tailor, Herring and Juvenile Salmon.

We are on the cusp of our flats fishing season with the cleaner water now in the system just add sunshine. The days that our temps get up towards 25 degrees and bright sunshine we will see our local yellowFin whiting become more and more active. It’s fun being the first of the anglers on the fish for the season, and the past few years have shown in general the early season offers some of the larger fish.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
