Weekly winner Shane and his monster Dhu

A week of two halves brought a mix of winter sunshine and fishing opportunities across our local waters. Offshore, Shane and his crew had a standout day on the brine, pulling in super-sized WA Dhu Fish and Pink Snapper out wide.

Offshore catch

Inshore Pink Snapper and Skippy have been doing well, with early morning or sunset sessions. Some anglers are finding it hard to get past the Skippy to chase King George Whiting.

Earlier in the week, the Dawesville Cut and surrounding estuary held impressive numbers of squid, bigger than usual for this time of year, along with plenty of Herring and Tailor. The inshore fishery has been a solid option.

Our rivers are still producing great results. Ryley landed a cracking 42cm Bream locally, and the weekend’s Bream comp saw solid bags and smiles all round. These are the kind of results we haven’t seen in the Murray for a few seasons.

Estuary squid catch

The weekend ahead the weather is going to make offshore beach and groin fishing a bit of a challenge. Monday and Tuesday are shaping up as the next best windows. In the meantime, our river systems will still fish well, especially for those using the new Daiwa Reflex lure which has been a standout on recent sessions.

Also worth a look is the estuary, where pockets of clear water can deliver great results. And for anyone up for a drive, this week’s rainfall could give the freshwater scene a boost. Trout activity should pick up in the creeks and streams leading into our dams.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
