Weekly winner Chris with a Stonker Sambo here
Spring has kicked off with warm sunshine and improved conditions, giving local anglers a much-needed break from winter. This week’s Mandurah fishing report has something for every angler.
The beaches have cleaned up quickly, with water clarity improving and weed clearing out. Tailor are back on the bite, and it’s been a good week for drone baits in calm conditions. The estuary is still pushing plenty of fresh water, but fishing the back of the morning high tides is producing herring and juvenile salmon. Yellowfin whiting aren’t far off either. A few more sunny days and it’ll be worth a wade with small vibes.

Mulloway and bream are active in the rivers. As river flow slows, the bite should improve across snags and edges. Freshwater trout are starting to move again. A patient, stealthy approach is still key, but warming weather and more insect activity are starting to make a difference.

Inshore boating is firing. Skippy are stacked in the burley trails and a few XL sambos are smashing through schools and causing havoc. The inner whiting grounds are producing a quality mix of King George and sand whiting, flathead, flounder and squid.
Finally, a huge shout-out to local angler Zac Harris, who skippered a boat off Mandurah and helped land a cracking swordfish with Brian Edwards on the rod. What a way to kick off spring. Well done lads.
