Weekly Winner Neil with his Snapper
The fishing’s hotting up in the Peel, and what a bunch of cracking catches we’ve seen in the last week or so. This week’s voucher was nearly impossible to split based on the best fish, so we’ve gone with the best pic. The photo itself is always a big part of our selection. Congrats to all anglers featured in this week’s report.
Inshore and land-based pink snapper have been firing. The lingering cold fronts are providing dirty water, which they love to hunt in. Land-based fishos should focus on fresh bait, with mullet being a great option for both scent and presentation on a circle hook. For inshore boat fishing, fresh bait and a strong burley trail is key.

Check out Luke’s blue eye trevalla, a cracking fish from the deep. Then there’s his mulloway by boat. We don’t see many mulloway caught offshore in local waters, so this one was a real surprise.

Matt has been putting in consistent time chasing trout and is now seeing better numbers of fish in great condition. Blake had a ripping day on the water with his family, boating his first dhu fish and out-fishing his dad at the same time.
Cameron Keenan has landed the largest local harlequin I’ve seen. The coral trout of the south are absolutely magic on the plate. Or is a nice King George like Alex’s more your style?

This weekend marks the final days for demersal captures, with Tuesday the 14th being your last chance to target them before the next window opens on December 16.
And for the freshwater crew, the Southern Forests Trout Festival is on this weekend at Big Brook Dam in Pemberton. Check out Recfishwest’s pages for more info.
The weekend weather looks good. It might even be time to drag the dive gear out of the shed and get below the surface for a look.
