Weekly Winner | Harry with a local Shark Mackerel

Rounding out the year with some great fishing in the peel region.

Our Estuary first up this week, Local crabs are on the improve daily as they spread across the sheltered water system.

For waders in the shallow’s willie hooks are the go. And those that are drop netting by boats fresh baits and keep shuffling your pots for good success.

While you’re out there the estuary has great numbers of Tailor and with the waxing moon culminating to the full moon on the third of Jan the sunset bite will be red hot. Simply trolling a Smilin jack or casting your Favorite surface lure on light tackle its going to be on.

Lucas with some nice landbased squid

Our light tackle Yellow Fin Whiting are good in numbers and size making wading the shallow with a light tackle outfit and a willie hook for the crabs a great way to spend some holiday time.

Squid are also around as well look for the clearer water and slower water movement if you’re fishing land based.

Crays we are seeing good numbers of reds for those that have left their pots in after the white’s run.

Keep your pots on some nice solid bottom near some heavier structure.

Trav onto the local KG

Offshore the Pelagics are here with another cracking Shark Mackerel caught on the cast. There is lots of bait hugging our inshore reef systems. Drifting along and casting towards the structure and any movement you see is working for anglers, with good numbers of smaller Yellow Tail kings keeping Fishos on their toes.

The New Malosi Staples series Minnow getting lots of attention.

We are also seeing good numbers of Blue fin tuna from 28 to 40 mtrs once you see any sign of activity simply towing small Buku or Richter skirts will get you onto the action.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
