Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines.

The past week has generally been bright sunshine and calm seas.

Perfect for our bread and butter species like Herring, Squid, and Gardies with some nice catches under the Autumn sunshine.

The weather for the next week has two small fronts rolling through. This is going to fire lots of other species up. The forecast of 2 to 2.5mtrs of swell will firstly get those Salmon that showed up in small numbers earlier in the week back onto the beaches and rock walls. The glamorous conditions will tend to see the fish sitting offshore, a stir up with some wind and swell sees the fish active and hunting back along the shallows of the beaches and groins.

Tailors will also be more active with the chop on the water, they love to hunt under the cover of choppy seas. The same applies in our Estuary. This time of year we find bigger Tailor and juvenile Salmon at their most active, with many anglers having crazy sessions in the late afternoons on light tackle and surface stick baits.

The same applies for the Pink Snapper, dirtier the water the better it gets them hunting in the shallows giving you access to them from the shore.

Crays if you have pots out, this swell bump is going to give better conditions for crays to graze further from the safety of the caves and ledges they live in. The further from home they walk the better chance you have of them finding your pots.

Offshore we are hopeful this bit of weather could give our pelagics a bit of a surge in activity. The water in the Bay has been quite still with very little current recently. A bit of a mix up can often wake things up a bit.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line, as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
