Angler holding dolphin fish caught while spearfishing in Mandurah waters

Weekly Winner | Rhys with a nice Dollie on Spear

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

Nice mixed bag coming through from anglers over the past 7 days or so. The winter fronts so far haven’t had a lot of punch in them meaning we are still seeing a good window of opportunity.

A walk alongside the Dawesville cut yesterday morning and the incoming morning tide was quite clean with anglers enjoying a good bite of local herring.

Angler displaying striped fish caught in Mandurah estuary waters

Chase with a solid Stripy

With the full moon this Saturday night tailor and squid will be active especially as the sun starts to disappear over the horizon. The inner reaches of our rock walls and groins the best for the squid. The estuary and ocean side are better places for the tailor.

A small bump in the swell Friday night may even keep a couple of crays in pots during the full moon phase.

Fresh flounder catch from Mandurah estuary fishing

Flounder are certainly been caught more than ever in our local estuary

On the pelagic front the Dept of Fisheries have started to bring in our FADS for the season, at the time of writing all the FADS south of Rotto are already out of the water. For those of you north of the River check the Dept of Fisheries FAD location page before you send it wide. Whilst the FADS have been pulled from the water the pelagics are still out there. If you come across any floating debris at all it’s worth a cast as it could well be holding dollies. The YFT and BFT are still around with time on the water, the difference in a successful mission.

Skipjack tuna caught on light tackle in Mandurah marina waters

Marina Skippy always fun on light tackle

Our river has seen good activity from soapy mulloway, and it’s been good to see some bigger black bream coming through with fish in the high 30’s being caught.

Shore angler holding pink snapper caught from Mandurah boat ramp

Oakley with a land based Pinky at the boat ramp

With a good forecast Sunday Monday and Tuesday look to be good opportunities for an anchor and burley on our inshore reef systems for KG and skippy. Setting your boat on the edge of the weed, sand and structure give you a good shot at them all.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
