The Reel Fishing Spot – 8 September
September 08, 2023

Welcome to this week’s edition of

On The Bite / The Reel Fishing Spot

Freshwater first up this week, Stephen has found some fantastic rainbow trout on a mission through the southwest over the past week or so. Our streams are flowing nicely. As the springtime sunshine slowly engages our insect population, the flying critters will start to fill the air and the trout fishing will only get better.

The crew at KPT Fishing have had some cracking sessions with land based pink snapper at White Hills. Don’t forget, due to the new fisheries regulation there is a closure in place for demersal fish by boat however, land based demersal fish is open all year round.

Our estuary system is also starting to clear up, working the pockets of clear sea water has seen some great early sightings of tailor fish. Speaking of estuaries, we are on the cusp of another anticipated flats season. We just need a little more sunshine – you’ll find the yellowfin whiting, herring, salmon, and skippy will be stalking the flats in search of bait!

There is nothing more fun when the surface strikes in less than a metre of water using ultra-light tackle.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend, as always, good luck, tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
