Tight Lines – 07 February, 2025
February 07, 2025

Welcome To This Week’s Edition Of Tight Lines

With the Demersal and Marron Season closed we turn our attention to Pelagic, Rock walls, Groins, Estuary, Beaches and In-shore saltwater.

Pelagic wise, things are literally heating up with Spanish Mackerel being caught just south of Rotto over the past few days. Our local Fads are holding Dolphin Fish. Plus the Blue-fin Tuna Schools that can be found anywhere from 20 metre to 90 metres.

Rock Walls and Groins Oceanside, these groins are productive for Tailor, Herring Juvenile Salmon and Squid.

Beaches for bread-and-butter species like Herring Gardies and Whiting in the mornings. Then for Tailor and the occasional Mulloway late arvo and early evening. The Tailor bite is strong around the build up to the full moon and stronger with an onshore wind. Remember we can also catch Demersal’s from the shore all year round.

The estuary is fishing amazingly well with Tailor, Whiting, Herring and Skippy. Never discount an arvo session with the higher tides if the Seabreeze is kind enough they can be a hot bite session.

Inshore Saltwater, good Sand Whiting 8 to 10metres deep. Good skippy attracted by burley around structure. Good squid in the shallower inshore reef systems. Sampson fish in the inshore reef systems for a good test of not only anglers’ skill but their gears set up as well.
