Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines!

It’s that time of year where smaller weather windows will be more productive with better prep, and literally downing tools when those windows present themselves. Luke did exactly this last weekend before the storms started – a quick offshore trip in search of pelagics.

Time on the water over recent years he had his areas to troll planned in advance, rods rigged and he hit the water with some magic winter mackerel success. The Murray River has produced some nice bream recently with fish over the 1kg mark captured over the past week.

Our marinas and rock walls have held the staple skippy and herring as the water is still quite clear. Whilst we have had a dose of winter, we haven’t had strong ground swell associated with them, this all adds up to water clarity returning to relatively clear soon after the sun comes back out. Same for offshore skippy on the anchor and burley. King George through the 28 to 34 metre line and handful of blue fin tuna still around through the 30 to 40 metre area.

Mother nature can test us this time of year – having a clear plan will help with some winter success. Have your rigs and leaders pre tied, have your bait ready in the freezer. Keep an eye on the weather as it tends to change quite a bit. We are heading to the new moon Monday which could help to stimulate a better bite, the dark side of the moon is a good time for a sneaky mulloway.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
