Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines, your go-to source for the latest Mandurah fishing conditions. From offshore adventures to estuary escapades, we’ve got the local insights to keep your lines tight.

Big rains last weekend made conditions during the week a bit tough. With lots of fresh outflow and extra weed dumped on the beaches, fishing has been patchy.

The good news is we’ve got a solid weather window from today through to Friday morning. Your best bet is to head away from the fresh and find cleaner water. It might be a bit of a mission, but sometimes those missions pay off.

Offshore fishos who made it out have been getting stuck into sambos on jigs. Big numbers are smashing metals, putting arms and gear to the test. This time of year they’re often found patrolling the Five Fathom Bank and structure out through the 30 metre line.

Cray pots are also producing well. If you haven’t got yours in the drink yet, now’s the time. Focus on the structure and use fresh bait to fill your baskets. Even if the weather keeps you off the water for a few days, your pots will keep working and the crays already inside will stay content.

The next demersal opening kicks off next Tuesday, 16 September, and runs for four full weeks until 14 October. It’s not just the school holidays this time.

Keep the first four you catch, then switch it up and chase some of the other awesome West Coast species on offer.
