Tight Lines – 12th April
April 12, 2024

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

Awesome Autumn conditions have given anglers so many options over the past 7 days!

To the beaches, first we are still seeing a few good tailor, but it’s the Autumn herring that have really become active, coming from the same family as their big brother, the Aussie Salmon. They are often at their biggest and largest in numbers this time of year.

Local juvenile salmon are also providing many a hook up, mixed in with the herring schools. We have a good run of late season crabs with the males back out on the flats exploring.

For those with their cray pots in, stick them hard up against the lumps in the shallower depths for best success.

Offshore, we have seen some cracking catches with big Dhu’s, solid Pinks and kidney slapping King George.

The Inshore Snapper has been super encouraging for this time of year. We generally see this fishery get better as the inshore water gets a little dirty from our West coast cold fronts. The fact it’s already producing in clearer water is a good sign for the season ahead.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
