Weekly Winner | Cam with a solid Sambo
It’s starting to feel a bit like Autumn.
Autumn is a great time of year for fishing, as the summer heat and winds slowly subside the fishing options grow.
Crabs and Crays are at their peak whether it’s a stroll with a willie hook or with drop nets. It’s the time of year to enjoy one of the tastiest crustaceans right on our doorstep. Crays in Autumn, this is the time of year they start becoming more active again. Low swells mean it’s great for divers. If you pot for crays hard up on the reefs nice and tight against some structure and your catch will improve all the way thru till the winter swells start to make it too hard to safely get out there.
This Saturday is also the last 1 hr window for Roe Abalone in the West Coast Zone. Between the hours of 7 and 8am. Goodluck!
Damien with a nice Land Based Pinky
Louie with a nice Estuary Tailor on Surface
The weather this weekend will give us the chance to get wide of the fads. They were holding good schools of dollies last weekend. Keep plenty of room between yourself and others for your best chance of success. Like all fish they will disappear with too much boat traffic.
Autumn is also a time of year we tend to see better Mulloway and the calmer nights make it a lot better to put some time into targeting them.
Rock walls and groins offering good numbers of Herring Squid and Tailor. Before we know it the schools of Sea Mullet will be hanging around often with big Sambos behind them for you chance of a Land based brute with either a live bait or a lure.
The Estuary also hits its straps with Crabs, Herring, Skippy, Whiting, Tailor and the return of the juvenile Salmon as the water cools a little.
