Arian with a cracker PB Mulloway
Rock Lobster, our local crays we are in anticipation of, have shown signs of the molt phase kicking in. Will the annual march of the whites kick off during the last week of November? It appears that way, but mother nature and predicting animals is no exact science! Watch this space for the latest info as we see it.
Our rivers are cleaning up with some nice active bream and mulloway. Lots of bugs and flying ants are hatching at the moment meaning the late arvo or twilight bite should be strong. As the wind for the day subsides and the bugs land on the water, the fish often come alive. Small lures that sit higher in the water column or unweighted baits are the go.
We are due for bream to be making the move to the lower reaches of the systems as some leave the rivers for the estuary, canal and marina systems for the summer.
The Main body of the estuary is finally starting to fish better as well. With Herring and Tailor slowly making their presence felt. It still pays to move around looking for clearer pockets of water, the edges of the clear and dirty often a good place to flick a few casts.
Bream on Fly
Waders are having more success with Yellow Fin Whiting on the flats – the more sunshine we get and the more days in a row without rain and this exciting world class fishery will only start to fire more.
The Easterly winds have cleaned up the majority of the weed from our beaches giving us more options and making drone fishing more viable. The staples of whiting, herring and Tailor will also be more active.
Offshore whiting and squid will be good options as the water clarity improve and the swells subside.
Squid can be found over most of the shallow structure along our inshore reefs. A handful of casts over each dark section before moving onto the next is a good way to spend a morning.
