Tight Lines – 17th April, 2025.
April 17, 2025

Welcome to this weeks edition of Tight Lines!

Happy Easter Fisho’s while it’s a good time to indulge in a few Chocolate eggs. It’s actually a great time of year on the fishing front as well.

This week winner, Jeremy with a Dhu that tipped the scales over the magic 20kg mark.

Pelagic action offshore is still fruitful with some nice Dolphin fish coming aboard for those that make the most of the weather windows. An interesting fact about Dolphin fish is their growth rate; they can grow up to 2 inches in length per week. Meaning that at just 1 years of age they can, under good conditions be 4 feet in length.
We have seen some great Dhu fish and Breaksea come in from 30 to 60mtrs in depth. Remember to keep the first four demersals you catch then move onto the Troll or move to some inshore Skippy Squid or Whiting.

Our inshore Fishing is and will continue to be a great option this time of year. The early morning or late arvo anchor and burley technique is a consistent producer with Skippy, Pink Snapper and Yellow Tail King Fish all fun and tasty options. While you’re out there it’s always worth throwing a squid jig around as well. The five fathoms hold more squid than most people would expect. Beach fishing this time of year is always fruitful and locally we are still seeing some nice tailor and a handful of Mulloway. The mornings of dirtier water after a bit of as blow and a surge in swell have been consistently fishing well for Pink Snapper. The more we learn about them along our beaches the more exciting it gets.

Our Estuary still has a couple of whiting not as plentiful, but they are of good size. Herring, Tailor and skippy are still in good numbers and size. And while it’s getting to the end of April our local crabs are still worthy of some effort as well.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
