Welcome To This Week’s Edition of Tight Lines
The school holidays may be over but the fishing remains red hot as we move further into this 4 month opening for Demersal fishing season. Remember this fishery remains open until the 1st of August.
Some great Snapper and Balchin have been caught offshore this week along with some amazing Dhufish captures. Just check out Wardy’s fish that tipped the scales over the magic 20kg mark.
The list of bycatch is long and delicious with the odd Cuttlefish, Gummy Shark and YellowTail Kingfish also being taken over the last week.
YellowTail Kingfish numbers seem to be on the rise this time of year and will often respond to a good burley trail along the 5 Fathom bank or can be caught using lures or live baits on heavy structures such as Mandurah’s artificial reef.
We are also seeing a great run of Herring both in the estuary and along local beaches, the numbers and size of fish aren’t seen like this too often, the odd juvenile Salmon are also being caught during the herring chaos.
Last week saw some good Mulloway being caught along our northern beaches such as Nate’s 1m plus fish and for those travelling south there’s plenty of big Salmon hitting the sand with a few also being caught in local waters.
Finally, for those with a bit bigger boat – There’s also some encouraging currents running out wide with water temps easily over the 23 degree mark making a trip to our FADs and a troll for pelagics a promising option while this amazing weather permits a wider run.
Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
