Weekly Winner | Dave with a prize Mulloway
Let’s make the most of the Autumn weather. Offshore runs are on the cards with the kinder winds starting to be more consistent. The Rockingham and Mandurah FADS are still producing Dollis with the Rocco FAD area holding some 20kg plus yellow fin during the week as well. If you’re not sure what lures to try, the good trusty Halco Laser Pro has been responsible for plenty of hook ups recently.
King George is about and worth a try 18-24mtrs or 28-34mtrs the two areas to explore. Keep your long strip baits close to the bottom with the freshest bait possible. There is nothing better than your own caught fresh squid to entice a KG bite.
While they have been a little spasmodic, the season keeps an eye out for Blue Fin Tuna through the same areas.
Clearer water is good for squid fishing; a drift along the Five Fathom bank this time of year with some 3.5 deep Oceans Legacy squid Jigs can be quite fruitful. Like all species when they are on they are on.
King of the Crab Comp from last weekend
Vince with a bit of river action
Our local crabs are still good with the heaviest at last weekend’s King of the Crab Comp coming in at over 350 grams with a 550mm claw length.
Lots of herring are still on the beaches and in the Estuary, with Anglers reporting a few gardies getting about in the still early mornings as well. Autumn is the time of year for a better chance at the elusive Beach Mulloway and with the nicer evenings it’s always worth soaking a fresh bait just in case.
The Yellow Fin Whiting have been active with the nice sunshine during the week as well with anglers landing a dozen fish or more, in active top water sessions. The Slippery Dog from Daiwa in Honeybee is still deadly as a Top Water lure.
