Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines
Boom with the small pulse in the swell moving a bit of water plus the new moon last weekend we saw some fantastic catches across our region. Beaches and groynes first, Herring and Tailor are still in good numbers plus we saw some good Pink Snapper action from droning post the small swell bump. Fresh Herring or Mullet with a small piece of lumo tube, adding some UV attraction when fishing in the more productive dirty water. Set up on two circle hooks in a snelled configuration the hook ups will hold all the way back to the beach.
Austin with a nice local kidney slapping KG
Our estuary system is still super clear with a reasonable amount of bait coming in with the tides. Tailor and Herring on the tides or in the evening twilight are great, the estuary still has some nice crabs as well. Offshore some nice KG’s are being caught and as well as some nice deep-water squid 20mtrs plus. It sounds a bit odd but a standard Paternoster rig with a smaller squid jig on top and a whiting hook on the bottom can be very successful this time of year.

Lachie’s weekend drone session ticked the boxes | Nettie with a nice skippy from a anchor up on the five fathom
Anywhere you see squid follow fish up at depth is a sign to drop a squid jig to the bottom. These squid are often the big models with 30cm plus tubes. It’s worth a troll through these areas on the way there and back home for Blue Fin Tuna. The tell-tale birds have migrated, but the fish are still there. Look for bait balls on your sounder then get some lure in. Skippy were solid on the five-fathom last weekend, solid fish that are great on Vexed Micro meats and Oceans Legacy Roven Micro Jigs. Light tackle line burners that are great on the plate. An anchor up on the edge of the structure adds a nice burley bag to the water and it shouldn’t take long for the Skippy to find you.
Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
