Tight Lines – 22nd August
August 22, 2024

Welcome To This Week’s Edition of Tight Lines

Mother Nature has had the clamps on a bit over the past few weeks. The good news is we are only 10 days away from Spring and bigger weather windows to enjoy wetting a line.

A handful of keen anglers did get to enjoy some good winter Pelagic fishing over the past week or so.

Sampson fish continue to be active along the 30 metre line. More than willing to take jigs they are a sports fish that can test any angler in southwest WA. The 30 metre line is also holding volumes of bait and southern Bluefin tuna. It’s about marking bait on your sounder this time of year with very few birds to give away their location. Once located I find working North along the contour lines a good recipe for some consistent strikes.

Yellow Tail Kings have also been active and more than willing to take a deep diver or skirt. We find them along edges of prominent structure and depth change. They are the close cousin of the Sampson fish which are just as exciting to catch but definitely better on the plate.

Some good news this week from the fisheries Minister with the reopening from the 1st of December of Cockburn Sound to Crab fishing for recreational anglers. Cockburn Sound has been closed for 10 years and it’s great news that the science says stocks have recovered and are ready to fish again.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
