Welcome to another week of tight lines!

Mother Nature is keeping things a little up in the air for boaties over the next few days with a solid swell pushing through until Sunday at this stage. Let’s concentrate on our sheltered waterways. We have seen a nice pulse of prawns flushing out of our estuary system. The showers of rain we are getting, that little bit of freshwater landing on the system is keeping them active. While the prawns in our system aren’t the biggest by comparison to other waterways, over the last few weeks they have been as good as we see for size. Our sheltered rivers will also be a good option this weekend, the overcast morning being a good time to target black bream and mulloway.

Once the bright sunshine comes out and the shadows from trees, birds, etc. start, the bite will go off. Hence, it’s a good weather window for our river species. The Daiwa Bait Junkie Minnow in Bloodworm is one of the simplest and most effective soft plastics I’ve used with great success across different sheltered waterways. Our freshwater fishery is also fishing well; small spinners are the simplest to use for everyone in the family. Like most artificial lures we throw at fish, using the lightest you can cast out a reasonable distance will generally give you better success than a larger, heavier version. Our freshwater fishery also responds to small 2½ inch grubs in darker colours, black and dark reds to suit the water clarity. The redfin in the system will hit them hard when slowly bounced across the bottom.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
