Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines
A warm but cracking week of fishing in the Peel region. Estuary first this week and quite simply its light tackle sports fishing at its best. Tailor, Skippy, Whiting and Herring all in big numbers and size.
With the afternoon tides the hour or two before dark is a major bite time. Look for afternoons where the sea breeze is forecast to be lighter and make the most of it. While the fishing is hot, surface lures are definitely the go.
Crabs have also been the best they have been for years. They are good in size numbers and most importantly full of sweet meat. Ready for a slow boil or a chilli crab mix in the wok.
Pelagic’s, while the stronger currents are wide, the water temp is good, and chlorophyll is minimal. Tuna schools are more abundant and there are regular Dolphin fish on our Mandurah fads. Sightings during the week of Marlin hot on the heels of the Dollies brings goosebumps to the arms.
It may be time to put some hours in for that metro marlin in local waters.
Divers Visibility is really improving in the shallows and has been consistently out to 20 metres in depths over 20 metres with plenty of catch bags coming up full of juicy crays
Beaches, we still have great Tailor in the evenings and whiting and herring in the mornings.
Dates to remember:
- 31st of January end of the current Demersal season
- 1st of February Abalone 1 hour session
- 5th of February 12 noon end of Marron season
Wherever you get the chance this weekend as always good luck tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
