Tight Lines – 26th March

Angler holding large bluefin tuna caught offshore from Mandurah waters

Miko with a cracking Blue Fin from last weekend

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines.

Offshore a little bit of a slower week on the water. The pelagics are out there but there is a lot of water between them. The pending weather event this weekend could potentially shake things up for the better. We have been in a pattern of cool water coming up from the south in quite big volumes with a quite weak Leeuwin current flowing to the south on the outside of the 200m line. Let’s wait and see if this system gives the Leeuwin current some strength to push a little closer to the coast.

Inshore has still been reasonable with anglers targeting squid and skippy on our inshore reef systems. As we get deeper into autumn, we will hopefully see a few more Yellow Tail Kings arriving in our burley trails.

Beaches will definitely get a bit of a shake up this weekend. We have a full early next week so if the system moves through quick enough for winds to subside on time it could mean good conditions for Pink Snapper and Mulloway Sunday and Monday.

Rock walls and groins could become more active due to potentially higher than average tides. And at times bait will seek shelter wherever it can, like we say if there is bait expect predators to be nearby.

The fresh water from expected rain could also stimulate our local prawns to be more active. Autumn time and a bit of rain generally gets them moving a little more.

It could be a good week to head into the hills after the rain event. Depending on how much we get it may also wake up the Redfin and Trout in our dams.

All in all the weather system may hold us up for a few days but in general I think it will help the fishing as the week unfolds.

Wherever you get the chance this week as always good luck, tight lines and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
