Tight Lines – 29th March
March 28, 2024

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

The re-opening of the demersal season is upon us from today Good Friday through till the 31st of July!

Also, to coincide with the reopening of the season there is a new stewardship program for rec anglers to be a part of. DhuFish Forever, based on a similar model over east Tuna Champions the program is a platform for rec anglers to come together, and learn from each other, whilst leading with best practice.

If you’re lucky enough to get some Demersal early in the day, running some skirts from 30 metres and shallower seems to be the hot spot for tuna over the past week or so.

The reliable anchor and burley technique is back in play on the 5 fathom bank with solid skippy, squid and now the chance of a nice Pink Snapper or two. Check out the solid Flathead that can be found while drifting for King George.

Plus, Francois has caught one of those surprise catches we get from time to time. A Dart of a local beach while fishing for Tailor. Proving you just never know.

If you’re heading south to target Salmon their numbers are building nicely along the Capes Region just stay safe on the rocks with a small bump in the swell forecast late in the weekend.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this Easter long weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
