Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines!
For the net fishos in our estuary who enjoy the Wednesday evening sessions, a reminder that the season has entered its annual three-month closure until the first Wednesday in November. Local rivers have been quite productive with juvenile Mulloway still nice and consistent in our Murray and Serpentine systems. Our rock walls and groins can be a little inconsistent this time of year with the fresh water getting around.
In general, the outgoing tides can be a little more productive for our Herring and Tailor. Don’t be surprised to tangle with a few Aussie Salmon in the same areas as there have been a handful getting around. Inshore Kgs are a little quiet, but the bigger Sand Whiting have been consistent with fish often coming over the gunnel above the magic 30cm mark. If you’re ready, the crays are on and the winter swell has been a little kinder than some seasons, giving us a chance to get some pots back in the water. Targeting the reds on hard but not too heavy bottom are the areas to explore. Samson Fish are in number through the 30s for some line-burning jigging action. Winter Bluefin are still around with Rip Charts showing temperature breaks from 35 to 45 metres.

These are the places to explore for bait on your sounder. With the winter sunshine, exploring up in our hills has been productive with our freshwater anglers getting some early season trout.
