Weekly Winner | Blake with a rare flatty from local waters

Summer crustation heaven is upon us. Our Blue manna crab fishery is open as of the first of the month. Remember to gauge them as soon as you catch them, ensuring those that need to be released do so in the best condition to ensure they grow out in the future.

Crays, we are seeing the first signs of white getting close to walking. Crays in less than 10mtrs of water will be the first to go and those of us that enjoy time under the water are seeing good numbers on the ledges.

Abalone the first 1-hour season is getting close Saturday the 13th of January. We live in an amazing part of the world having all these tasty crustations right on our doorstep.

With the build up to the full moon this week Tailor on the beaches and ocean rock groins will be active. We have seen some great sized Tailor already. As always, the heightened Tailor activity could also elevate the chance of a special beach mulloway.

Our rivers are still holding good school sized mulloway, great fun on light Bream gear and willingly take small lures and well-presented plastics.

Speaking of Bream, we are seeing more turning up in our canal and marina systems.

The Estuary fishing is heating up daily with the warmer weather and cleaner water pushing in with the bigger tides. This cleaner water is full of bait and hence gives the predators good reason to be in our system, Food it’s that simple.
