We often mention winter pelagic and how they are a real option at times. Given there are minimal birds giving away their location, it is using tools like rip charts for temperature and chlorophyll changes and your sounder to mark bait activity.

Sometimes it’s just worth trolling a lure like the Halco Max that can be trolled at up to 12 knots or more between spots. You may be able to enjoy a selfie with a winter Mandurah Mackerel.

Inshore, there are still good winter skippy turning up in burley trails, added to the sunset Snapper that are still active with bigger fish getting about.



Fishing the back of the incoming tides is the best chance of local winter squid throughout our inshore and sheltered waterways. Our local squid are also more partial to smaller squid jigs 2.5’s are generally better in our shallow waters.

Our beaches are still holding good Tailor and Herring especially away from any fresh water that may be entering the ocean. If your favourite fishing hole is weeded up, move up or down the beach to a cleaner area for best success.
