Tight Lines – 5th September
September 05, 2024

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

Springtime is here and the forecast for the next 7 – 10 days is looking way more promising for anglers and water lovers! Locally those that have grabbed opportunities are starting to see more success.

The beaches North of town are better for Tailor and Herring, generally post winter storms they are more fishable than the beaches to the south and are further away from the freshwater runoff.

We are seeing the start of the inshore winter Skippy run with a handful caught through our sheltered waterways during the past week.

As always, this time of year looks to fish the top of the incoming tide and the start of the run out. The cleaner and saltier water will hold bait and hence predatory species like Tailor Skippy and Herring.

For a great family experience this weekend Trout Fest is on at Drakesbrook Weir. You and all the family can help with the release of Fingerlings, Yearlings and Broodstock trout back into the system, there are Casting competitions, Fly casting Demos, Kayaking and entertainment for all. It’s also the opportunity to fish freshwater licence free.
