Tight Lines – 6 March, 2025
March 06, 2025

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

Looking over the lineup of picture entries this week, we are going to give a huge shout out to our local young anglers! Week after week we see the enthusiasm coming through in these young anglers as they visit us in store, share their thoughts and knowledge and then execute their craft with a winning pic to display and share when they succeed.

Firstly some really good Yellowfin Whiting are still being caught on surface lures along our estuary flats, the young fellas have taken to this form of fishing really well and find some cracking fish at times. Just look at that specimen taken by young Lakyn!!

It’s that time of year where we have plenty of Garfish in our local waters and while there’s plenty to be caught along our sheltered beaches, they are also in abundance along the estuary rock walls and inlets as Bailey Hebb has found out. A piece of prawn under a float doing the damage.

Juvenile Salmon will start to become more active now coming off the back of Summer and as it starts to cool down a bit as young Alex has discovered. Skippy have also been fishing well as displayed by Mitch and Darcy and being caught from along our local beaches to inside our marina and canal systems.

Zac has been getting stuck into members of the Seriola clan (Samson fish/Amberjack) as they tend to congregate around the more prominent offshore lumps and are great fun on medium/light tackle while jigging.

And finally young Dillon was lucky enough to find himself wrestling with this lovely Wahoo which are becoming more common during this time of the year when our water temps hit the mid to high 23 degrees mark.

Well done to all our great young anglers!! Keep up the amazing work. Continue to try and take winning pics and keep those entries coming.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.
