Weekly winner: Kyle with an 83cm Pinky off the cast
A bit of a tricky week with all the fresh water from last weekend’s rain, but there were still some great fish caught by anglers who made the most of species opportunities and weather windows.
Land based Snapper was the highlight this week, with Kyle, Bermudahhh and Luke all landing solid fish and big smiles from their sessions.
Another standout moment came from Aleigha, who landed her first ever Black Bream and it measured over 40cm. That’s a benchmark many local fishos chase for years. A special catch that’s going to be hard to beat.
The recent rain has also stirred up some activity among local prawns. While they’re still small, they’re full of flavour and this is one of the best times to target them, especially following the first of the big wet weather events.
As we move into the weekend, the hope is that most of the freshwater will flow out of the estuary system, revitalising the fishery. Herring and Tailor activity should start to pick back up as a result.
Friday’s swell is forecast to drop, and with consistent easterly winds, we’re hoping the weed clears from the beaches. Last week’s weather clogged them up a bit, but Sunday through Tuesday could offer clearer conditions. Offshore opportunities may also open up during that window, and don’t forget there are only five weeks left in the current demersal season.
