Welcome to another week of tight lines!

A change in the seasons is slowly happening. Up in the hills first, the fresh water is fishing quite well with redfin and trout. Small spinners and the new MaxScent plastics from Berkley are the go-to. The sunshine and cleaner water is helping to get the yellowfin whiting season underway. Switch prawn vibes are the go on the cooler, slightly overcast days or earlier in the morning before the heat of the day.

Once the sun is out and there is some warmth in the air, Slippery Dog surface lures in our very own Tackle World colour are super effective on the whiting, tailor, skippy and herring. We are still seeing some great tailor off our beaches. It’s been a consistent season for them. Inshore squid are also building and starting to be more common along our rock walls, jetties and marinas. Prawns have also been as good in size as they have been for years, with anglers getting a nice feed with an after-dark dab.

Crays – where are they at? It’s this time of year where the question on everyone’s lips is when will the whites start to walk. What we have seen since the full moon is that the reds on the reef have gone quiet. This is the first sign that the moulting process has started. They will sit tight for a few weeks yet, but it’s giving us an idea that the best time of the year to catch crays is right on our doorstep. Time to prep your pots, ropes and floats and get ready to go.
