Tight Lines – 23rd February
February 23, 2024

Welcome to this week’s edition of Tight Lines

The game fishing competition season is upon us with the Perth Game Fishing Club’s Marlin cup held last weekend.  8-7-2 being the final stats for the fleet of boats that participated, with castaway taking out the silverware.

A good push of current from the north fired up the Mandurah FADs during the week with FAD No. 10 holding good Dollies.

Southern BlueFin Tuna were in good numbers through the 30 – 40 metre line. With birds and bust ups in every direction. Inshore our local crabs are tasty and full.

Tailor on our beaches with the waxing moon phase have been off the charts. With locally caught fish pushing over the 60cm mark. Exciting times for our early evening anglers. With the good numbers of Tailor we have also seen some solid mulloway over the metre mark.

And some good news for one of our bread-and-butter species, the Southern Garfish, fishing for the Southern Gar has been closed for the past few years to help stocks recover.

This closure will be lifted from the 1st of March.

Wherever you get the chance to wet a line this weekend as always, good luck tight lines, and remember every day’s a good day for fishing.

WIN a $50 voucher every week!
