Tight Lines – 30 January, 2025
January 30, 2025

Welcome To This Week’s Edition Of Tight Lines

A warm week under the sun and a hot week’s fishing in our fabulous Peel region. The only place to keep cool is in, on or under the water.

Offshore, we have seen some fabulous Dhu fish, Snapper and Breaksea Cod. Whether bait or jigs is your go to, the afternoon tides have certainly created a nice bite.

Inshore, we have plenty of Skippy about on our inshore reef systems. A small amount of berley and a lightly weighted bait providing plenty of fun from these light tackle speedsters.

Pelagics, while the main current is still way offshore, we are seeing water temps increasing. Interestingly we have had more sightings of Cobia in local waters, a species I don’t believe we have seen this far south before. Dollies are frequently on our fads and as we can see there are Wahoo scattered amongst them.

Beaches are still good for whiting and herring in the morning and good Tailor in the late arvo and early evenings.

Our Estuary is amazing with the crabs, the best we have seen for years. From the fishing front, the light tackle options are endless with Tailor, Skippy, Whiting and Herring all plentiful.

Our Dams I have had reports of heightened activity from Red fin over the last week as well as the warmer sunshine may shut down the trout but can help with the Reddie bite.
